List of Potions page[edit]

Hi there, I see you reverted my edit to Oblivion:Potions. Can you let me know why? I was trying to increase the visibility of the very relevant Alchemy page and clarify some information which is a little out of place (the comparison between built-in and custom concoctions). It certainly organized the information better and added a call-out for the more in depth article at Alchemy. -Dean

Sorry about that[edit]

I managed to kill off the references in the Baan Dar section, though I don't think there wasn't a problem before I tried to clean it up. No matter. Thanks! Mutated (talk) 04:43, 15 July 2013 (GMT)

Replacing FI[edit]

Can I ask you why you decided by yourself to cut the last FI's time on the main page in half? ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 15:18, 26 July 2013 (GMT)

I didn't decide by myself, there is simply no agreement on the issue. There is no set time for the time that an FI will be featured. While Silencer did change the article to reflect standard behavior, there is still no actual agreement on what the time should be. The times that have garnered any acceptance have been one week, ten days, two weeks, and a month. I went with a week since I was doing a bunch of other administrative tasks at the time, and a week has gone by since changing it. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 17:55, 26 July 2013 (GMT)
As far as I'm concerned, it was discussed several times, and every time 2 weeks has been the outcome, well simply because people didn't seem to debate it. Seeing as the page says 2 weeks, and all images before have always had a minimum of two weeks, I don't see why you'd ignore that ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 18:02, 26 July 2013 (GMT)
Ok I did see a change in the past according to the talk page, and at least one that has only been on for 10 days. Regardless, the last change was to two weeks or more, I suggest we stick to that. Otherwise, it should be discussed again first ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 18:07, 26 July 2013 (GMT)
(edit conflict) How did you come to that conclusion? The first time I brought this up there was absolutely no consensus, with times such as a month, two weeks, a week, or even a single day being brought up. The second time this was suggested, the consensus changed the time to 10 days as the standard. The third time this was brought up and the time given on the article was changed to two weeks, there were absolutely no replies to the topic in question, and it was changing the time from one month to two weeks. The previous time of one month was quite clearly ignored as well, as evidenced by the main page's history. So I see no error on my part in changing it in only a week. I do not agree with the change to two weeks as there was no clear consensus leading to this change, as can clearly be seen from the discussions I linked to. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 18:14, 26 July 2013 (GMT)
By that logic, I can ignore the next change as well. Why don't you discuss it on the talk page? ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 18:18, 26 July 2013 (GMT)

() By that logic, you can't have a consensus of one. And you must also remember that as has already been shown, there isn't exactly a standard time frame from all of the other occasions that the FI has been updated, and the time on the article has been regularly ignored. I simply didn't realize there was any actual standard operating procedure anyone has been following, mainly because there hasn't been one. Which might explain my confusion as to why you're criticizing me for changing the FI by "deciding by myself" when you are currently defending the previous decision that was done in the EXACT manner. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 18:33, 26 July 2013 (GMT)

Edit: I've revived Silencer's topic on the matter so we can be truly done with it, so that there is a clear agreement we could point to in the future. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 18:46, 26 July 2013 (GMT)

Tablet[edit]

Heh. I was just about to post an indignant question about why you reverted my edit. Try editing on an iPhone if you want REAL frustration. --Xyzzy Talk 01:47, 2 August 2013 (GMT)

I know!!! The worst part is the rollback button. There is no secondary confirmation, so if your touch screen decides to hit it it all goes to hell! I meant nothing by it, friend! Thanks for being understanding. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 01:49, 2 August 2013 (GMT)

Lore:Jiub[edit]

Hey AKB! Thanks for closing the topic on Lore_Talk:Jiub. I really didn't know how to handle that, but I knew it had gotten too off track from the actual article content. I appreciate it! :> --Nocte|Chat|Look 19:16, 10 August 2013 (GMT)

Edits in Recent Changes[edit]

For some of the edits in Recent Changes, for the number of characters added or removed to a page, e.g. It will say: (+450). Sometimes it will be in bold and say, as an example: (+450). By the way, what does that mean when it is bolded? Guard of DragonsSpeak To Me 16:24, 16 August 2013 (GMT)

That is telling you the difference in the number of bytes between revisions. If you hover over it, a tooltip will appear telling you the exact number of bytes on the article now. The number is bolded whenever it's over (+-)500, as it's considered to be a major edit. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 16:26, 16 August 2013 (GMT)

Oblivion: Speed[edit]

Why is it that with my Altmer character I run slowly? Is it because I just have low stats on Speed and Athletics and / or is it to do with the Scale e.g. Height of Races that make the run speed look slow? Guard of DragonsSpeak To Me 17:04, 16 August 2013 (GMT)

Please read the relevant articles to find out. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 17:07, 16 August 2013 (GMT)
I do read the articles. It is just that, for the tall height of an Altmer, I had average speed and a little lower athletics. It could be with the character scale speed increase, the game was trying to render the slow base speed, and, as a result, my Altmer ran in a slow-motion like run. Guard of DragonsSpeak To Me 17:16, 16 August 2013 (GMT)
The speed difference based on scale is extremely negligible unless you are on a ridiculous scale. It only has to do with your stats, and not because your character is a few inches taller. The reason this is so important for Skyrim was because scale was basically the only thing that could change your character speed. This isn't the case in Oblivion. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 17:26, 16 August 2013 (GMT)

Dragonbane Topic[edit]

Re: Dragonbane convo on Leveled Items Talk Page As respectfully and civilly as possible, I don't appreciate you saying, "I do not think your arguing is going to bring any other people around at this point..." etc. after my last comment. Replying to someone's points with points of your own (new points, mind, I wasn't merely repeating myself) is generally how a debate or conversation works. It's the 'Discussion' page, after all.Disagree with me all day long, that's great, but don't imply I have nothing further to say, that no further arguments I can make could convince anyone. It's a bit condescending. If we're looking for a consensus on what the other users think, let the points stand on their own merits. Anyone reading a comment like yours is going to be more likely to disregard my opinions a priori, you know? Muddies the waters.

I thought perhaps that rather than just being offended, I'd run it by you. Cheers. — Unsigned comment by 66.30.21.53 (talk) at 05:14 on 22 August 2013 (GMT)

I apologize greatly for offending you! It really wasn't my intention in the slightest, and I appreciate the effort to be understanding and to talk about it instead of fighting over it. What I was saying was that you have been the only user to voice that opinion so far, with you replying after every other post I have made. The simple fact is that when there are mainly two people in a topic (you and I), it's best to just stop discussing it if you can't come to an agreement with the other person. I do not want to disagree with you all day, I have things to do. Which is why I asked for you (and myself, mind) to bow out of the conversation until other people voice their opinion. I do not see how anything either of us could say could add in to it, so let's just see what other people have to say, if anything, instead of discussing a topic we have both already made up our minds on. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 05:14, 22 August 2013 (GMT)
Fair enough. --66.30.21.53 19:52, 22 August 2013 (GMT)

Morrowind:Slavery transclusion[edit]

If you recall, in IRC you stated a few weeks ago when I was last around that you meant to handle the issue of User:Eric Snowmane/Bedt tanscluding to Morrowind:Slavery after the deletion review had been closed for a while with the sandbox transcluded temporarily. Do you still have intentions of handling that, or shall I take care of it soon (tomorrow)? -snowmane  xoxo 03:26, 19 September 2013 (GMT)

If you want to handle it, feel free to do so. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 18:27, 19 September 2013 (GMT)
I've broken the transclusion with a straight copy of the transcluded text, but seeing how I am simultaneously recommending a merger of Slavery and Slaves, given how we have two sort of redundant pages, one of which doesn't have much game-specific merit, I am not going to be in a huge rush to update links from Lore to Morrowind and make it more game-specific without an idea of public opinion on the two. -snowmane  xoxo 19:02, 19 September 2013 (GMT)

Main Page[edit]

Hello, AKB. Just to let you know, there's an itty bitty mistake in your recent revision to the main page, which caused the "Did you know..." section to be centre aligned. You missed out a forward slash for the tag at the end of the FA paragraph. Hope you (or any other administrator who is reading this) can correct it soon. Thanks :) ~ Psylocke 03:58, 20 September 2013 (GMT)

Undoing a Talk Page Post on an Old Topic[edit]

Do you know how old a topic has to be in order to undo someones post/reply to the discussion? Anil said six months, but - I would like to ask you for clarification. DGTC 14:24, 27 October 2013 (GMT)

There isn't a set limit. 3 months is about right for a topic that could do with further input, but sometimes even a post a fews years out of date is acceptable (depending mainly on if an unresolved topic that is likely to go on the page). If a topic is fully resolved and the post truly adds nothing to the discussion, then a month might be considered enough time for it to be considered for removal. 0RR: A Few Questions[edit]

When you say I cannot revert anything, you said vandalism was an exception. Are the following in the list below other exceptions?

  • Blanking
  • False Information Added
  • Forum-Like Posts
  • Necroposts

I would help me out further on what I can and can not revert. DGTC 10:22, 29 October 2013 (GMT)

Blanking falls under the category of vandalism. I would stay away from the "false information" line if I were you, though. That tends to lend itself to the same problems that got you on a 0RR in the first place. You should probably just let other users take care of the other two as well. That sound about right, AKB? ThuumofReason (talk) 11:32, 29 October 2013 (GMT)
The easiest way to go about this is simple: if you're not sure, just leave it alone. There are plenty of experienced editors around who know what they're doing. — ABCface 13:31, 29 October 2013 (GMT)
Yeah, I agree with your revert in this case, but in general I think you should only revert obvious vandalism under the revert rule. Leave everything else to the rest of us. --AN|L (talk) 15:31, 29 October 2013 (GMT)
What ABCface said. If you are not sure, don't do anything. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 18:27, 29 October 2013 (GMT)

() That's definitely the intention. I've noticed some improvement so far, but I would surely keep working at it to get better in the future. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 19:46, 30 October 2013 (GMT)

AKB, I have a question: Does removing content count as undoing? I removed the note on the Whodunit page about collecting money after bribing guests, because it isn't specifically tied to that quest. DGAny Questions? 09:22, 2 November 2013 (GMT)
No. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 10:34, 2 November 2013 (GMT)
I appear to have said it a little wrongly. Legoless reverted my removal of content on the Whodunit? page and said it was undoing. DGAny Questions? 12:24, 2 November 2013 (GMT)
It appears that you were not undoing the most recent edit, but removing info that has been in the article for a very long time. I would have reverted it as well. He did not say you were undoing, he said "undo, 0RR". Maybe the "0RR" part of the edit summary was a reminder from Legoless to you, just in case you were thinking of reverting him. --Xyzzy Talk 14:39, 2 November 2013 (GMT)
See his post to my talk page. DGAny Questions? 14:42, 2 November 2013 (GMT)

Anon signs with unsigned?[edit]

If you have time to help me, I wonder how we should correct an anonymous user signs with an unsigned or uns2 template (and additionally have wrong time zone in time stamp)? Like this

Would it be proper to try to reconstruct an ordinary anon signature (with correct time stamp), or maybe I should just adjust the time stamp in the unsigned template? —MortenOSlash (talk) 06:18, 30 October 2013 (GMT)

It would definitely be appropriate to notify the anon of how to properly sign--it's obviously just a misunderstanding.
I'd propose we correct the time stamp in the unsigned template, myself, but I'm not the one you asked, so shutting up now. Xolroc (talk) 13:53, 30 October 2013 (GMT)
Since we can't sign it for him, just correcting the unsigned template is the best option. Informing him of this since he has been around for a bit now is also reasonable. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 15:28, 30 October 2013 (GMT)
That makes sense. I will follow that recipe next time. Thank you! —MortenOSlash (talk) 22:16, 30 October 2013 (GMT)

SIC?[edit]

What does SIC actually stand for & does it pop up automatically when there's a misspelling, or is it put in manually? (I'm kinda new here, as I'm sure you can tell. lol.)KaidaThyme (talk) 23:30, 16 November 2013 (GMT)

I normally leave posts for whoever it is meant for, but since it's so straightforward I'll just answer it. The Latin adverb sic ("thus"; in full: sic erat scriptum, "thus was it written") added immediately after a quoted word or phrase (or a longer piece of text), indicates that the quotation has been transcribed exactly as found in the original source, complete with any erroneous spelling or other nonstandard presentation.
This is an exxample [sic] of the sic tag in use. -damon  xoxo 23:39, 16 November 2013 (GMT)
Oh, okay. Thanks. I tried finding the answer elswhere but couldn't. I thought it specifically meant misspelling since it always drew my attention to one. Thanks again.KaidaThyme (talk) 23:59, 16 November 2013 (GMT)
What Damon said. We don't correct textual errors when transcribing dialogue notes, books, or what have you. While we use it to indicate the error does not stem from us, this is one of the more regular errors we see come up, users "correcting" sic tags. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 00:21, 17 November 2013 (GMT)

ESO = ES series death[edit]

The elder scrolls online is looking bad... really bad. I know this is just my opinion but alot of people think so too. It looks like ESO is going to notonly fail, but kill the whole ES series. Is this going to happen? 67.237.177.47 22:35, 17 December 2013 (GMT)

Just to jump in. I'm not sure what you are hearing, but I've heard the exact opposite. Everyone that I've heard who has played the game (be it in media previews, game show demos, etc) have all loved the game, and think it will be a great addition to the series. The only people I have heard who HAVEN'T liked the game, haven't actually tried it and don't really know what they are talking about. Jeancey (talk) 23:00, 17 December 2013 (GMT)

Trivial, but necessary: The timeline for ESO starts in 582, not 583.[edit]

Hey there, I know it's kind of a... trivial thing, but I thought it bore some degree of note that the in-game year for the Elder Scrolls Online is 2E 582, and not 583 as it currently states at the page: http://uesp.net/wiki/Online:Online

The reasoning behind this is first of all the information the developers have put out the quote below about the storyline. The years mentioned are obviously accounted for in in-game year, and just because an out-of-character / out-of-game year has passed, it doesn't mean the in-game timeline has continued.

Four years ago, in 2E 578, an arcane explosion of energy in the Imperial City set off mystical aftershocks that swept across Nirn. Mages died or went mad. Supernatural abominations from the plane of Oblivion, the Daedra, appeared in greater numbers than ever before. The constellation of the Serpent grew so large that it dominated the night sky.

Of course, the most compelling argument to it being in 582 is this intro video, in which the Prophet clearly states the year at the 1.11 timemark:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W-g-dLuPW2s

The reason I'm letting you know is because I cannot update the page myself, and many often look to the UESP to research lore, and so should not be given the wrong impression :P

So the thumbnail bug is back. Different page though. Any idea why?[edit]

Now it's on www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Minorne. Surely this issue isn't being fixed by manually converting the thumbnail or something?

I looked it up online, appears to be related to an incorrectly configured MediaWiki/ImageMagick installation.

Debate Hall[edit]

Why have you added a link to the page that you have pit it on? What I mean is on the place page: Deate Hall you've added a link to Debate Hall and then changed it to Debate Hall. I'm confused as to why you felt the need to add this redundant link. I've not seen any pages with links to the page that you are on throughout the wiki. Especially adding with a # link. You'll need to look at this under edit or diff to see what I mean. Biffa (talk) 18:27, 4 April 2014 (GMT)

I believe he was trying to anchor to a specific section, which is what you use the # for. I have fixed it. When you are moving within a page, you JUST need the #. I have fixed it to [[#Debate Hall|Debate Hall]] Jeancey (talk) 18:35, 4 April 2014 (GMT)
I'm not exactly sure about what most of what you said, but adding a # to a link is basically an inter-page link. This means that clicking on it will take you to that sub-section of that page instead of the top. I.e. clicking this will take you to the phases of the moon in Daggerfall. Make sense? •WoahBro►talk 18:37, 4 April 2014 (GMT)
In the future, please give me time to respond to my own talk page unless it is an emergency issue. Additionally, it didn't need to be fixed, my anchor worked fine. Yes, it's longer, but it does the exact same thing. It's like how we don't use the shorthand for each namespace when adding links, although that is shorter. Both are acceptable, and there is no need to change it when you see it since they both do the same thing. Maybe as part of a larger edit to have internal consistency, but there is no need to edit to just change that.
To respond to Biffa, I did not add that link to the page, you did. I had assumed you wanted to anchor the lower position within the text, which while not the most necessary, is alright. Your version had it just bolding the name, which is unnecessary if that was your intention. As such, I changed that when I was proofreading your editions to that page. If you have any additional questions about this, feel free to ask me. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 21:38, 4 April 2014 (GMT)

http://uesp.net/w/index.php?title=Skyrim:Thieves_Guild_Armor&action=history

Care to explain your thought process behind this? I think it's rather convenient to have links to other pieces of armor in the set. I actually visited the page Skyrim:Thieves Guild Armor looking for a page will all items in that category.

Dbbolton (talk) 04:15, 9 April 2014 (GMT)

See Also sections generally shouldn't contain links that can already be found in the text (see WP:SEEALSO). The links you added are already present in the second sentence of the article. Exceptions are sometimes made, but generally only for lengthy articles where strongly related links are not easily found. Robin Hood  (talk) 04:59, 9 April 2014 (GMT)

Hi there! New user trying to use the FanFiction section .....[edit]

I just joined this site because I have this great idea for a story and tried posting it, but it keeps thinking I'm a spammer because the tale is a bit long. Could you possibly help me out with this? I assure you I'm no bot/troll/spammer. Just a kid who loves writing TES fiction and sharing it with others. Thanks so much! — Unsigned comment by TESfan4ever (talkcontribs) at 08:58 on 7 May 2014‎

The simplest solution, and probably the best one in the long run, is to post the story in smaller chunks. The spam filter will allow each of those through, and after you've had ten such edits and been on the site for at least four days, it'll ignore the size limit entirely. I am wondering about a weird door.[edit]

My brother was playing Skyrim on Xbox and said he had found a door which appeared to be dark brotherhood but had,(instead of the hand symbol) a skull with a sword. He told me it was near a body of water and as he tried to open it, it uttered a password to him. I am thinking it may be the Dawnstar Sanctum but I have been there with him watching and he said it wasn't the one. Would you please clarify if there is a "Secret" door to a ruined Dark Brotherhood (or similar association) anywhere in the game.71.241.103.138 02:35, 14 May 2014 (GMT)Ario Rage.

Hey, AKB! I was talking to Robin about the proper procedure for closing a unanimous vote after a week had passed with no input, and he said that I should talk to an editor who's been around for a while and wasn't involved in the discussion. Would you be willing to close the vote? ThuumofReason (talk) 13:08, 27 May 2014 (GMT) Thanks. I'll start working on instituting the change. ThuumofReason (talk) 22:25, 28 May 2014 (GMT)

Still Alive[edit]

Hey everyone, it's AKB doing a talk page post on my own talk page! Considering my recent activity issues, I feel it is necessary to let you guys in on some personal information going on in my life due to my position on this site. Over the past year, I've been randomly getting extraordinarily sick for a few hours or even a whole day, causing my schedule to go to chaos alongside increasing responsibilities at home. Due to some bad fortune, whenever I set up time that I intended to spend for the UESP, I would fall sick again and not be well enough to focus on the site. After falling sick once more with intense pain for almost a week straight, I went to hospital to get a checkup. To save you guys the gory details, I was suffering from an internal mishap that would have cost me an organ if I didn't get it fixed when I did. While this has been a pretty terrible period in my life physically, now that I have had the issue resolved, I have made an almost instantaneous recovery (no medicines or anything).

With the medical issues cleared up, I hope to have more reliable activity in the future. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 23:17, 14 June 2014 (GMT)

Health-related Site Leave[edit]

I just got out of a surprise followup surgery a few days ago, finally been able to start eating again.

Due to my failing health, I do not think I should be very active within the UESP community at present due to the physical toll the last few months have been on me. I need to focus on getting better, and while I love all of you guys, working on this project when moving my limbs requires ten minutes of prep to get into position means I can't really a useful member of our site. I'll try to do some basic stuff when it is convenient for me, but I have to focus on myself right now if I ever intend to be a truly helpful admin again. I'm sorry I haven't been as active as I should have been over these last few months, but I must make it clear I am only going to be semi-active at best in the near future. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 11:44, 14 July 2014 (GMT)

Archiving FI nominations[edit]

The current "past nominations" is getting big, and I thought it would fall right into place to archive it to mark the end of 2014. However, I'm not sure how to archive a nomination that starts in one month and ends (either by votes, or by consensus) in another. Since you've created most archives, you would be able to tell if there's a strict system on that? Basically the archive should end "December 2014", so the next archive will start "January 2015", I think that's best personally ~ Dwarfmp (talk) 16:09, 1 January 2015 (GMT)

The start date of an archive is the earliest any discussion began on that page, and the end date is when the last discussion ended. In this case, your request is impossible as there was no nominations that ended in December. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 18:38, 1 January 2015 (GMT)

Forumlike Help Requests[edit]

Hey, AKB! I wanted to ask your opinion on something. I feel like recently I've seen multiple discussions like this one created on talk pages, in which an anonymous user asks for help, then creates multiple unnecessary posts saying that they're going to try such-and-such or that this-or-that solution didn't work, and they end up solving the issue themselves before any other users have a chance to comment. Do you think it would be okay to remove discussions like that if there's only one contributor and they solved the problem by themselves? I know we typically allow people to request help with problems if the problems may affect multiple people, but if it's an issue that's probably only affecting one person and it's been resolved, I don't see the point in keeping the talk page cluttered up with a string of updates. What do you think? Zul do onikaanLaan tinvaak 18:25, 8 April 2015 (GMT)

I think it's fine, as long as it's that self-contained (three posts isn't that bad). Someone else may read a talk page for help, and find the solution needed that way. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 19:09, 8 April 2015 (GMT)

Help![edit]

Recently I made a rather long reply to several people on a user's talk page, and when I tried to save it, it came up with this message:This action has been automatically identified as harmful, and therefore disallowed. If you believe your edit was constructive, please inform an administrator of what you were trying to do. A brief description of the abuse rule which your action matched is: Bulk Spamming Filter. Since it told me to go to an administrator, I came to you. So what do I do?!?!?! This wasn't one of my first edits either. Yours most urgently --Dave the nord (talk) 09:08, 12 April 2015 (GMT)

I'm not sure what's wrong, since I haven't done anything with that system myself. Can someone else look at this? --AKB Talk Cont Mail 01:58, 13 April 2015 (GMT)
Most likely you are tying to add a URL. In General, outside URLs aren't used at all, so whatever the limit is (it's probably time since account has been created) you haven't hit it yet. I'll look at the abuse log, but 90% of the time, that's the reason. The other thing is for new accounts trying to make large initial edits. So if you are trying to create a massive user page, and the page hasn't been created, or is small, that'll often trigger the filter. If that is the case, I would suggest breaking it up into sections and making each edit individually. So, in the case of a user page, put 3-4 user boxes in each edit and then in the last edit add any text your might want. If you do it that way, it shouldn't trigger the filter. Jeancey (talk) 02:52, 13 April 2015 (GMT)
For some reason, the abuse filter thought you were logged out, so it treated you as an IP editor. Looking at your signature in the attempted edit, it was off by an hour, which suggests that you actually were logged out or else it would have picked up the time correctly. You didn't just use a manual signature by any chance, did you? If not, then I'm at a loss. Robin Hood  (talk) 04:19, 13 April 2015 (GMT)
It appears to have fixed itself now I've reset the browser. Thanks! Crabbily --Dave the nord (talk) 11:53, 13 April 2015 (GMT)

I can't make any account![edit]

I type in the code and my username password, email, and name, and I have a regular wiki account so I know how all this works. It won't let me create an account. - Please help ~~Christa

Are you getting any sort of error message? Account creation is definitely working, so it can't be the recent update bugging out. You just need to type in the code, a unique username, and password to make an account, it is purposely a pain free process you can complete in seconds, so I'm not sure what might be wrong. I'll ask some more technically experienced users for help, but they'll have trouble solving this issue for you without any kind of information about the error message, if there was one. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 17:45, 21 June 2015 (UTC)
Reading this, I'm puzzled by your wording that you "have a regular wiki account". Are you trying to create a forum account? Or did you mean you have an account at some other wiki, like Wikipedia? And yes, as AKB says, any additional information you can provide would be helpful. What exactly happens when you try to create your account? Robin Hood  (talk) 18:53, 21 June 2015 (UTC)

House of Horrors - use of console[edit]

Hello. You wrote "No need to include suggestion to use console." for revert of my suggestion in Skyrim:The House of Horrors. May I humbly ask what makes my suggestion different from the several other bugs where the use of console (and what exactly to do at the console!) is advised? I can't see a difference. I was at that exact situation in my gameplay at the time and would have appreciated the info, including how to fix the situation (which I was able to test right away), then I get it reverted with no appreciable info whatsoever. Is this how users are treated here regularly? Regards, Andersenman (talk) 07:40, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

Hello Andersenman, I've decided to restore your edit. We try to avoid including console suggestions, since the console can basically solve any issue in the game. The console is always an option, it's also why we try avoid saying things like "[Overpowered weapon or tactic] will help you in this fight" on any article with a hard fight on it, since that's true in almost any situation, we don't need to constantly remind our readers of such things. It is assumed that if you are on PC, you should use the console to fix issues like this. If we were to include every time a console can assist a suggestion, our articles would be loaded with heavily repeated technical notes. I didn't notice the number of different console codes included in the bug section, I have quite heavy tunnel vision while editing. I would prefer to trim those console suggestions, but they're rather excessive right now it'd take a while. In fact, even in that section alone, various suggestions are repeated. With your edit restored, we now have more than one suggestion to use the unlock command on the doors there.
Edits are reverted all of the time on wikis, I explained my reasoning in my edit summary, and since the edit history is saved, it is easily (and was easily) restored. In fact, this is our standard way of forming consensus of how our articles should be written. You, incidentally, followed that same procedure for coming to agreements on this issue by talking to me, but to be clear, I'm not trying to treat you poorly by reverting an edit. As of now, I'm fine with your version, but that section needs to be cleaned up due to the number of console command suggestions, regardless. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 02:32, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

Citing the Emperor's Guide to Tamriel[edit]

Greetings AKB!

After editing around the site for a while, I have realized that some of the Lore articles could be improved with information within the Improved Emperor's Guide to Tamriel. However, I noticed that some of the entries do not provide an in-universe author and book title. As such, I was wondering if there's a site policy regarding the Emperor's guide in particular, and whether I should simply cite the excerpts that do not provide an in-universe author as simply "Excerpt from The Improved Emperor's Guide to Tamriel - Flaccus Terentius" or something of that sort.

Thanks for your help. Boots (talk) 22:35, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

Our book citation template automatically attributes it to Flaccus Terentius, which I believe is fine, for all intents and purposes. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 22:48, 6 August 2016 (UTC)

I noticed that it's only me and her recently (more me than her, but both of us are doing stuff) being active on the Tumblr account, and as you know, without administrator access from one of us, as the two most active posters we can not view or manipulate messages, presumably submissions if those are set up for the blog, and other functionality. And, both of us have been here for years and are elevated and trusted wiki users, so I'm pretty sure we can handle the blog without breaking anything :p

Hi Alpha Kenny Buddy, It's about the Oldblivion page again. Rather than recreate a talk page, you're the man! Firstly the Tessource link is dead and the OmegaDrivers link is dead. I could edit it myself, but been out of UESP long time so it's a bit of a leap of faith now. Secondly, I remember the site well- wish Archive.org was around then. It was fantastic- and made for me a great game which is still very much alive, but in a different way then. So much of what was on that site is lost for good now? Damn shame that, but will keep an eye and ear out for any more info that comes to mind. I wanted to do the same but did not have the stones to take out that whole section on the Skeleton Key which had festered so long. Anyway I've reduced the useful part to a couple of short sentences in the Notes. It was not a bad tip (IMHO), just overwhelming wordy, complex and detailed to the point of uselessness. Kalevala (talk) 14:42, 6 October 2018 (UTC)

Gallery:Argonians[edit]

About the deletion mark - if the whole gallery will be transferred to the main lore argonian article wouldnt that be too much useless information there? Listens-to-Air (talk) 02:38, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

Gallery isn't a namespace, so that page is wrong to begin with. Most of the images there are already in the gallery on the Argonian page anyway. You've added the remaining Legends avatars, which is simply redundant. The only others are the ones under concept art and the achievement art. Of these, the only one that I think adds anything is the light armor, which may be useful if a section on Argonian armor making is added. —Dillonn241 (talk) 04:02, 29 November 2018 (UTC)
That the project and a work to do. I wanted to expand this page further a lot with all the other possible art. No way I wanted to stop as it is now. For example, Legends have tonn of quality official argonian art. Adding this bunch to the main Lore:Argonian page would be considered simply as spam. Thats ehy I decided to create a seoarate page. Also, the lore page in no way contains all the possible artwork on argonian theme. What format would you suggest me to use for collecting all the visual art, related to certain race? — Unsigned comment by Listens-to-Air (talkcontribs) at 11:41 on 29 November 2018 (UTC)
I appreciate your interest. Sadly categories (special pages to just list pages or images) perform this function, basically. As for providing all Argonian art on one page, it'd be troublesome to create a page with a workable policy for what to include or exclude within project-space. A curated list is better for userspace, and you can absolutely create a page for all your favorite images there. I hope this helps, if you need more, feel free to ask. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 11:41, 29 November 2018 (UTC)

If you wish to reinstate the item on the page you should propose a reason why it should stay, not support false comparisons and back other editors just because of who they are. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 21:53, 14 December 2018 (UTC)

I don't think this was done in any bad faith at all. It's just another case of WP:BRD. There was no clear consensus yet, so reverting the change is completely justified. It's why I added my own thoughts to the discussion to quickly get a consensus and stop this (imo) quite needless edit warring. --Ilaro (talk) 23:32, 14 December 2018 (UTC)
Unless I see evidence otherwise, this was an either an edit in bad faith or a serious lapse in judgement. The issue had been brought up 9 days prior, and the discussion had tailed off 5 days prior to the removal. AKB's summary to "See talk page", without contributing anything to that discussion, clearly shows that he had not read that discussion, particularly the overwhelming evidence against the item remaining on the page, combined with the mostly invalid arguments in its favour. Many discussions are considered to have reached a conclusion well within 9 days, even discussions that are contested. At best the undo could be said to be an attempt to abide by some ill-conceived notion of a policy that doesn't exist. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 01:25, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
WP:AGF. I would like to see the conversation reach a clear and natural end, and am avoiding taking part in the discussion so I could be available to help reach a consensus as an entirely neutral party to this issue, if necessary. I've also locked the page in the meanwhile. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 07:44, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
I've a bit of a hard time justifying this last revert with you also being a neutral party in this discussion. If you revert without participating in the discussion you are just using WP:BRD instead of WP:BRD. As long there is a discussion about a subject, there is no reason to go back to the status quo (especially if the discussion is reaching a consensus towards the opposite position, which will only result in yet another unnecessary revert). --Ilaro (talk) 11:11, 15 December 2018 (UTC)
I'm not invested in either version over the other, I'm merely opposed to anymore back and forth in content space. I'll happily restore the version without the Easter Egg to alleviate your concerns, though.--AKB Talk Cont Mail 11:51, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

() Thank you, that's very reasonable. --Ilaro (talk) 12:09, 15 December 2018 (UTC)

The change made on Morrowind's voice actors page[edit]

Hello!

Thanks for contacting me!

I read on the voice actors page that voice comparisons are not accurate enough to be used as proof, which makes it difficult for me to justify my changes that would otherwise be very much acceptable. Maybe some day I'll have time to make contact with the different voice actors and to make certain that I made the right corrections. But for the time being, I'll have to undo my changes.

Missing: Puzzling Pillar Ruins[edit]

shouldn't this be a page? it's unmarked, but it does, as the name implies, have a puzzle (whale, hawk, snake). --Snotty (talk) 06:41, 20 December 2021 (UTC)

Purewater Run chest[edit]

May I ask why you re-added the information about the locked chest in Purewater Run? I wondered why I couldn't find it in my game so I checked in CK and it's not part of the base game. I can only imagine it's been added by some mod in which case it presumably shouldn't be in the article. --Vometia (talk) 06:04, 30 May 2022 (UTC)

It was part of Anniversary Edition (which I abbreviated as "AE" in the edit summary, sorry if that caused any confusion). We are documenting the content in AE. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 06:11, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
Ah, thank you! That completely hadn't registered; I think when I read about the AE I just figured "oh, they're just selling us the same old stuff again" and dismissed it without further thought. I'm probably becoming too cynical in my old age. :D --Vometia (talk) 06:13, 30 May 2022 (UTC)
Glad to help! --AKB Talk Cont Mail 06:14, 30 May 2022 (UTC)

Too dumb to edit[edit]

I tried to add a translation for Yahgrondu's name on his ESO page's notes but it isn't showing up.

It's fine, everyone's knowledge base starts somewhere. Fixed it here. Those instructions are put there to keep text appearing, I just removed the instruction wrapping. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 16:44, 9 October 2022 (UTC)

2022 on news items[edit]

It seems like you have been accidentally putting 2022 instead of 2023 on your news items FYI.

Thanks for fixing this, common mistake with the year change! --AKB Talk Cont Mail 08:34, 28 January 2023 (UTC)

Gotcha, thanks for the clarification! Oath2order (talk) 05:03, 30 January 2023 (UTC)

Re: Followers[edit]

I actually haven't had any followers killed there myself; I just noticed this sentence in the Zahkriisos section: "The blades are proximity triggered, so if your follower isn't essential they will likely be killed passing through, as there is no way to disable the traps." I took it at its word and figured a warning like that isn't very useful unless it's mentioned up front (especially since I'm pretty sure you can't even turn around at that point in the dungeon). Didn't even think about followers being protected though. Feel free to remove/reword as necessary! —Will • B[talk] 02:00, 24 April 2023 (UTC)

Admin[edit]

Hello, I have noticed your personal user page claims you are an administrator as of your successful Rfa. Obviously that is seemingly no longer the case as of February of 2021 based on this. I assumed it was something you simply never got around to changing but just thought out of courtesy I would draw your attention to it as I assume something like being an official administrator of the wiki or not would be information we want represented accurately throughout the wiki even on user pages as we don’t want to set the potential precedent of non admin users impersonating/perpetuating themselves as an official administrator of the wiki, given all the special privileges and ability to commune with developers and such on behalf of the wiki the station entails.Dcking20 (talk) 12:58, 5 July 2023 (UTC)

Re:Scourge[edit]

Hey!

In ESO, there are a few depictions of Scourge as an axe. Probably because the Morrowind image on various sites (including this one, at the time) had Scourge positioned at such an angle that ZOS mistook it for an axe.

You can see it as an axe in the Old Orsinium public dungeon and on a fresco of Malacath (as a model and as a housing furnishing), both of which readily accessible to see! I have taken the liberty of taking screenshots here. https://imgur.com/a/7Wrg0rZ Aanthirin (talk) 08:06, 26 February 2024 (UTC) (edited to add signature)

In response to YOUR response on MY talk page: I would prefer if you did that because I honestly don't know the first thing about UESP page editing beyond the very basics ahaha. I couldn't even figure out how to reply to your reply on my talk page, least of all how to add a signature and response time like you did. Aanthirin (talk) 08:06, 26 February 2024 (UTC) (edited to add signature)
Hi there! AKB's a little busy at the moment, so he asked me to reply.
  • I'll tackle the signature first, since it's probably the easiest. To add a signature to your post, just type in ~~~~ (that's 4 tildes) at the end of your post. If you're on a typical North American English keyboard, it's in the upper-left corner using the shift key. When you save, the wiki will automatically convert that to your name and the time of the post.
  • To reply to someone's post, just scroll down the page to the section you want to reply in and click the [edit] button (it's usually beside the name of the section, but it might be on the right of the screen if you've changed that in your preferences). It looks like you've got the hang of indenting, so just keep indenting one more than the previous reply and you should be good to go.
  • If you want to brave uploading, you'll find the "Upload File" link in the menu on the left, way down at the bottom under "Tools". Once you're on that menu, just click on "Choose File", which will prompt you for the file on your local computer. File names on our side can take a bit of getting used to, but for "Destination filename", I'd go with something like "ON-weapon-Scourge ##.png", replacing the ## with sequential numbers like 01, 02, etc. The summary can be anything you'd like, but it's usually best to keep it to a short descriptive phrase or maybe one or two sentences at most. For licensing, look under "Screenshot taken by a UESP user..." and then select "...of in-game ESO content". Don't worry about anything else, just click "Upload file" at the bottom and you're done. Oh and to add it to a page, see Adding Images to Pages.
Don't worry about getting anything wrong...whatever it is can always be fixed. And if you have questions, feel free to ask either here or on our Discord. There are lots of people who are happy to help. Likewise, I'm monitoring both AKB's page and yours, so if you run into trouble, just post on either page and I, AKB, or another editor will respond. Typically, it's preferred to keep a conversation all on the same page, but it's not unheard of for conversations to bounce around sometimes. Happy editing! (Four tildes go here-->) Robin Hood(talk) 04:29, 26 February 2024 (UTC)
Thank you for the response! I tried tackling the edits myself but got very easily overwhelmed. I think being an UESP editor is not for me, hah. (Though I have lightly edited pages in the past and uploaded images; the current Direnni Tower/Balfiera image was taken by me!)
If either of you wouldn't mind making the note and uploading the images, I'd be delighted. Aanthirin (talk) 08:06, 26 February 2024 (UTC)

"Notes"[edit]

What you say is all well and good, but you straight up deleted what I posted, instead of "integrating it into the main body of the article" like you say should be done. Those were perfectly good points, I thought. There's plenty of Notes sections on various pages (such as Corundum, Malachite and Ebony, to name a few) where the Notes section contains trivia about in-game items and their real world counterparts. The reference I added to the Briar Heart page was quite in line with that.TheOutsider (talk) 22:00, 7 May 2024 (UTC)
