Rollback of Accounts on ESO's PC-NA Server — April 16, 2024
A major rollback is in progress on The Elder Scrolls Online's North American PC megaserver. Following yesterday's launch of v10.0.0 on the Public Test Server, test characters from the PTS became available on the live PC-NA server, resulting in both servers being temporarily taken down. The live server has since been brought back online, but certain users who logged into the PTS have had their accounts locked until the rollback can be completed. Affected characters will have their progress rolled back to April 15 at 13:30 UTC; banks are reportedly unaffected. Customer Support has advised affected users that this process will take two to three days to complete.
This rollback comes at an inopportune time, with the Anniversary Jubilee in full swing. In addition to the valuable in-game rewards offered every year, this year's Jubilee offers additional bonuses to celebrate the game's tenth anniversary: many players are currently grinding for rare character-bound style pages, and the rewards for completing certain daily endeavors have been increased this week to coincide with the Thieves Guild DLC being made available for free.
The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road Preview — April 5, 2024
The UESP was invited to the 10th Anniversary Celebration for The Elder Scrolls Online in Amsterdam, where we got a chance to preview the upcoming Gold Road Chapter. During this preview we were given a chance to explore the West Weald zone, visit the city of Skingrad, encounter one of the new World Events, and try out the new Scribing system.
Our travel to this event was paid for by Bethesda. You can see the official article about the celebration here. You can see a recounting of our experiences with the preview here.
TES 30th Anniversary Stream — March 29, 2024
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of The Elder Scrolls: Arena, UESP's founder Dave Humphrey will be hosting a stream tonight at 9PM EST! You can join him as he reminisces on 30 years of The Elder Scrolls (and 29 years of UESP) on our Twitch account.
Today is the 30th Anniversary of The Elder Scrolls! — March 25, 2024
Today marks the officially acknowledged anniversary date for The Elder Scrolls. Although originally scheduled for release in December 1993, The Elder Scrolls: Arena was delayed into 1994. There is currently no known definitive evidence for when the game reached consumers, but the date used to celebrate its anniversary is March 25th.
The UESP looks forward to another decade of adventures in Tamriel and the rest of the Aurbis—and we are also looking forward to documenting it all. But perhaps most of all, we're looking forward to The Elder Scrolls VI. The official commemorative post for the anniversary (pictured) included a mention of the long-awaited sixth main installment of the series:
- "Last but not least, yes, we are in development on the next chapter - The Elder Scrolls VI. Even now, returning to Tamriel and playing early builds has us filled with the same joy, excitement, and promise of adventure"
You can see the official anniversary post here.
UESP's 2023 Retrospective — February 13, 2024
2023 was a really big year for the UESP, and we wanted to take a look back at some of the stuff we've gotten up to in that time. While it's not really possible to capture every single moment, we hope this year in review will give you a nice slice of it all. We look forward to everything we will get to create and improve as we continue our journey of documenting everything Elder Scrolls into 2024 and beyond, and we thank you all for joining us in that journey.

Laralyn McWilliams Dies Aged 58 — February 9, 2024
Laralyn McWilliams, an Italian-born American game designer and producer, has passed away on Monday. She was a former member of the Council of Wisdom and helped beta test The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall prior to its release in 1996.
The Elder Scrolls Online Announces Gold Road Chapter — January 18, 2024
The next Chapter of The Elder Scrolls Online has officially been revealed. This year, ESO will take you to the West Weald, a region of Colovia featuring Skingrad as a major city on the eponymous road. The region will also feature the Dawnwood, a sudden growth of Valenwood into Imperial-controlled Cyrodiil. Separating the two is the Wildburn, a particularly dangerous region with magic sickening the trees, altering the wildlife, and even modifying the landscape itself.
The story centers around the return of the forgotten Daedric Prince Ithelia, who was wiped from all history by Hermaeus Mora. Now with Ithelia let loose in the West Weald, you must investigate her wanderings and her scheming followers, the Scions of Ithelia. There are also new Daedric threats to face, but you will not be alone while uncovering the activities of this Prince or her followers. Old allies will come to your aid, including Leramil the Wise, Beragon, Fennorian, and Mizzik Thunderboots. New faces include Alea Idolus, in the service of Count Calantius of Skingrad.
Included with the Chapter is the new Mirromoor Incursion World Event, where you and any nearby players will have to fend off Daedric invaders that are appearing in the West Weald due to Ithelia's return. A new Trial awaits twelve-person groups in the form of the Lucent Citadel, where you will explore a vault in Fargrave in search of the "mysterious Reanimating Crux". With the Gold Road Chapter, you will also gain access to Scribing, a new system that serves as a progenitor to the spellmaking practices of later years in Tamriel. Scribing lets you customize special new Skills called Grimoires, which allow you to change a primary, secondary, or tertiary "script" of the skill. Your journey into the Scribing will also involve exploring the very origins of magic itself, along with the Mages Guild and a knight of the Order of the Lamp. Similarly, there will be "Skill Styling", which lets you visually modify your skills, making your particular actions in combat more distinctive.
The Zenimax team used this opportunity to provide a roadmap for all of the content for 2024.
- The year will start with Update 41, featuring the Scions of Ithelia dungeon pack and miscellaneous improvements to the game. This will arrive on PTS January 29th, and officially releases March 11th for PC/Mac and March 26th for PlayStation and Xbox.
- The previously described Gold Road Chapter will launch June 3rd for PC/Mac and June 18th for PlayStation and Xbox.
- Update 43 will release with a new Housing feature, as well as more improvements and bug fixes.
- The year will conclude with Update 44, which will bring two new companions to the game, as well as a new PvP feature.
Numerous articles were released by Zenimax to support this reveal, including a zone exploration guide, a breakdown of purchasing options and rewards, a look at Scribing, and a general overview. They also started an ESO Plus Free Trial to go along with today's reveal. Finally, you can watch the announcement trailer and full presentation on YouTube.
The Elder Scrolls: Castles Soft Launched — January 17, 2024
In a move that is almost as surprising as its surprise beta last year, The Elder Scrolls: Castles was released on January 17th with a soft launch. The game was made available exclusively in the Philippines, with promises that it would extend coverage over the course of 2024. As for the game itself, its gameplay is similar to their previous title Fallout Shelter, with it intending to provide a relaxed and casual visit to The Elder Scrolls setting.
Pre-registration for the game was made available through the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. We will provide more coverage on this mobile spin-off as it becomes available.
The Elder Scrolls Online Begins Teasing 2024 Content — January 10, 2024
The next chapter of The Elder Scrolls Online has begun its marketing campaign with a series of letters, glass fragments, and leaves sent to members of the community. Shortly thereafter, the completed design was officially unveiled (pictured), with a full announcement of the upcoming plans set for their Global Reveal on Thursday, January 18 at 4pm EST.
You can review our current documentation on the released material for this chapter on its page.
Verified Creators Program Launched for Skyrim — December 11, 2023
Skyrim Special Edition received a surprise patch last Tuesday, December 5, 2023. In addition to a host of bug fixes, the main addition has been a reorganization of the Creation Club and Mods menus into a single, unified "Creations" menu. Additionally, Creation Club has been retired in favor of a new Verified Creators program, whereby third party mod authors can apply to become verified and sell their mods in-game via this new menu. Known as Verified Creations, these new offerings bear a strong resemblance to the short-lived Paid Mods program that was launched on Steam in April 2015 for Skyrim's original release. The Verified program has launched with seven initial offerings, although only two of these are available for PlayStation players due to existing modding limitations on that platform. Note that Verified Creations disable achievement progress when enabled and are not included with the Anniversary Edition upgrade.
For the full list of changes included in the patch, see the changelog for Special Edition Patch 1.6.1130.

Tamriel Rebuilt Releases Andaram — October 31, 2023
Tamriel Rebuilt is a mod for Morrowind which adds the mainland of the province to the game, piece by piece.
Release 23.10, the Andaram expansion, is centered on the middle Thirr River, and the dark secrets which lie under its waters. The villainous Camonna Tong rules the port town of Hlan Oek while its Hlaalu governor has his mind on other matters. The great Temple city of Almas Thirr, first released in 2019’s Aanthirin release, has been expanded and updated and is now open to Imperial influence from the Fighters, Mages, and Thieves Guilds. Even the sleepy fishing village of Idathren has secrets to uncover. Meanwhile, the Dreugh Queen Paruddma broods in her Citadel deep beneath Lake Andaram’s placid waters.
This expansion adds a large new area to the game world and comes with more than 100 new quests, 9 faction questlines, two new biomes, and dozens of dungeons, including a whole new dungeon type. With this release, Tamriel Rebuilt now offers more quests than the original game and its expansion combined.
Download links and detailed information about new features are available on Tamriel Rebuilt's website.
Elder Scrolls Online Releases Update 40 and Infinite Archive — October 30, 2023
The latest update for Elder Scrolls Online has been released for PC and Mac players. Unlike most other major quarter updates, there is no accompanying paid DLC included with Update 40. However, this update still brings with it significant new content in the form of the Infinite Archive.
The Endless Archive is an "endless" dungeon for solo players or duos (a companion or fellow player), with each cycle endured in a single run becoming increasingly harder. The enemies you will face include a wide variety of possible types of opponents from past ESO content. Each cycle consists of several stages, culminating in a boss. After completing several cycles, you will face a more difficult boss, which completes that "arc" of the Endless Archive. Along the way you will obtain visions and verses. Verses provide a buff until the completion of the next stage, while visions provide a buff for the length of the current run. As a reward for completion of side puzzles, cycles, and arcs, you will gain access to Muniment Chests, which will give you soul gems, gold, equipment, and a new currency called Archival Fortunes. Archival Fortunes can be used with the merchants at the Endless Archive's entrance, who have monster mask style motifs, legendary quality treasure maps, non-combat pets, companion gear, and more. The Endless Archive also introduces new class-specific equipment sets, which are focused on providing bonuses to class skill lines.
Beyond the new free game mode, Update 40 also includes the largely requested Group Finder. Beyond just normal group content like Group Dungeons and Trials, it is also designed to help people find people who want to do exploration or roleplaying activities. Additionally, this update brings with it Grand Master Crafting Stations, which are designed to consolidate multiple attuned crafting stations into one, saving space in your home and limiting the number of stations you need to visit.
You can see the announcement of Update 40's release on the official website. Update 40 is currently set to arrive on consoles on November 14th.

The Elder Scrolls: Castles Released for Early Access Testing — October 04, 2023
In a very surprising move, an entirely new Elder Scrolls game was released onto Google Play last week, The Elder Scrolls: Castles. An official comment about the release was later provided:
"The Elder Scrolls: Castles is being developed by our talented mobile team behind Fallout Shelter at Bethesda Game Studios. We’re excited to share an early access version of the game with a limited number of players and listen to feedback as we improve the game over time."
Getting into early access seemed to be limited to a small selection of Android devices in North America, and was further limited to somewhere around the first thousand people to install it. Attempting to install it after that initial window simply results in the message "Early access is full". We will keep you all updated as more information is released, and once the game is fully released.
Oblivion Remaster Release Date Leaked — September 19, 2023
A remaster of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion was originally planned to be released in 2022, according to internal documents that were inadvertently made public as part of FTC v. Microsoft. The court documents include an internal Bethesda release schedule dated to 2020, prior to the company's acquisition by Microsoft. The same list also revealed that The Elder Scrolls VI was originally scheduled for release in 2024. In separate court documents, Microsoft has stated that TES VI is not currently expected to be released until at least 2026.
Bethesda has not officially announced the development of an Oblivion remaster, although it comes on the back of rumors that appeared online in July 2023 suggesting that a remaster is currently being worked on by a third party studio, Virtuos Games. Microsoft has since deleted the non-public documents from the U.S. court website where they were published.
UESP Map System Overhaul — August 16, 2023
A total renovation of the UESP's map system has been implemented. The new map system should provide a much better mobile view and experience. You should also be able to move more smoothly (less jitter when zooming in) and have it load faster.
New features will simplify sharing the map, like the URL updating to the exact map point you are on. Just go where you want to, and copy the link. For example, here is the link for this specific point on the map:
It now also supports a full screen feature:
There are also smaller fixes for various issues, and other changes that will hopefully improve the experience overall. Additionally, there has been an even larger overhaul for editing the maps, which you can read about here. We're very happy to be able to provide this newly improved map system, and hope it serves you all well. If you have any feedback, suggestions, questions about the new map system, please see this talk page.

Scrivener's Hall brings you into conflict with the Scribes of Mora, Hermaeus Mora cultists who have given up their cataloging work and morphed into dangerous zealots.

Elder Scrolls Online Reveals Necrom Chapter and Shadow Over Morrowind Story Arc — January 27, 2023
The Developer_Direct show from Microsoft and Bethesda officially revealed the next upcoming Chapter to Elder Scrolls Online, Necrom. Necrom will be part of the Shadow Over Morrowind story arc, the seventh main story arc for the game to date. This Chapter will take you to the southern portion of the Telvanni Peninsula, including the eponymous city of Necrom. You will also explore the Daedric Plane of Apocrypha, as you become involved in the secrets kept by Hermaeus Mora. The Telvanni Peninsula and Apocrypha will act as two separate zones.
Shadow Over Morrowind will begin with the Scribes of Fate dungeon pack. The two new dungeons included in the pack are Bal Sunnar in Stonefalls and Scrivener's Hall in the Rift. Bal Sunnar will involve time travel, House Telvanni, and the Daedric Prince Peryite. Scrivener's Hall will have you in conflict with Scribes of Mora dedicated to mapping Oblivion, and aided by a friendly Watcher named Zilipif.
The accompanying update to the game for Scribes of Fate will include numerous quality of life changes. This includes improvements to the housing tabs, listing of home's current occupants, ability to kick people out of houses, ability to reset dummies while in combat, display name of item that you're hovering over, and a list of items to purchase. The update will also include three Rewards of the Worthy sets in light, medium, and heavy variants. and new Alliance Face Emblems.
The Necrom Chapter will have you join the service of the Daedric Prince Hermaeus Mora as some of his most closely guarded secrets are threatened by a conspiracy that threatens to unravel reality itself. You will be joined on your journey by new allies, such as the Leramil the Wise who previously sent out letters requesting aid. There will also be returning faces, such as the fan favorite Morag Tong assassin Naryu Virian.
A previously teased major addition to the game will be the new Arcanist class, which will be the seventh in the game's run. The Arcanist class is heavily tied to Apocrypha and Hermaeus Mora, and draws its power from that Plane of Oblivion. The class will feature a new mechanic known as Crux, which will build up as Arcanist abilities are activated, and can be spent to enhance other abilities.
ESO will be expanding its companion system once more with two new additions, Azandar Al-Cybiades and Sharp-As-Night. Azandar Al-Cybiades is a Redguard Arcanist described as a cross between "Willy Wonka and Dumbledore", and Sharp-As-Night is an Argonian Warden searching for answers about his lost past.
A plethora of specific details about the plans for next year have been unveiled or mentioned in some capacity, a list of some of the more notable additions includes:
- A tome of the knowledge you accrued while dealing with Hermaeus Mora.
- Almalexia Tales of Tribute deck.
- New antiquities/collectibles/achievements/titles.
- Pre-made group finder.
- New endless dungeons.
- A new Trial.
A cinematic trailer was released along with the announcement. You can watch the Developer_Direct here, and the standalone ESO after show here. Numerous official articles have been released covering all of this, including one on pre-purchase rewards, the Telvanni Peninsula and Apocrypha zones, Shadow Over Morrowind itself, the Arcanist class, and the Scribes of Fate DLC.
Letters Mailed Teasing Upcoming Elder Scrolls Online Content for 2023 — January 17, 2023
More letters have been sent to influencers in the Elder Scrolls Online community to hint at the upcoming releases to the game. Addressing readers as "Proxy", the letter claims to be from a previously unmet individual known as Leramil the Wise. It reads:
- Proxy,
- The tide of fate swirls around you with glorious fury, and has chosen you to serve as its surrogate in a crisis most perilous. The future of at least two worlds hangs in the balance. Your talent for changing destiny has been noticed, hence the reason for this letter.
- Many paths lead forward, but only one ends with the survival of Nirn. At this particular moment, in this specific instance, you must be the thread that keeps reality itself from unraveling.
- I shall summon you as soon as the inescapable fortunes of consequence show me where we are needed most.
- Leramil the Wise
Notably, when exposed to a blacklight, the letter reveals a symbol of the Daedric Prince Hermaeus Mora. The letter also references a "tide of fate", with Hermaeus Mora previously claiming the title of "Master of the Tides of Fate" and being referred to as the "Tides". Although more speculative, it may be worth noting that the hidden symbol required a blacklight to be revealed, and one of the remaining notable locations of Tamriel that Elder Scrolls Online has yet to visit is the Redoran capital city of Blacklight.
You can view our article on this letter here.
Skyblivion Release Year Announced for 2025 — January 15, 2023

Xbox and Bethesda to Hold Presentation on Upcoming Games — January 11, 2023
After a considerable pause in news from Microsoft-held studios, Xbox and Bethesda have announced an upcoming Developer_Direct, a presentation on upcoming games hosted by their studios. Noted presentations will include Arkane Austin discussing Redfall, Mojang Studios for Minecraft Legends, Turn 10 Studios presenting Forza Motorsport, and ZeniMax Online Studios showing Elder Scrolls Online. Notably absent is Bethesda Game Studios itself, which will instead be hosting a separate show on Starfield at a different date.

Tamriel Rebuilt Releases Dominions of Dust and Embers of Empire — November 24, 2022
Tamriel Rebuilt is a mod for Morrowind which adds the mainland of the province to the game, piece by piece.
Release 22.11 adds two major expansions to the game world:
- Dominions of Dust is a dangerous, sparsely inhabited borderland southwest of Vvardenfell, in contention between Great Houses Hlaalu and Redoran. The exception is the city of Andothren, a huge Hlaalu trade port on the Inner Sea.
- Embers of Empire completely overhauls the western shore of the Telvanni peninsula with its Imperial settlements of Firewatch and Helnim—the lone outposts of Imperial power in this most hostile part of Morrowind.
Combined, the two expansions include new land areas three times the size of Bloodmoon and about 200 new or overhauled quests, bringing the total quest count of Tamriel Rebuilt to parity with the vanilla game and expansions.
Download links and detailed information about new features are available on Tamriel Rebuilt's website.

Stadia is Shutting Down — September 30, 2022
Google has today announced that it will be shutting down its cloud gaming service Stadia on January 18, 2023. This will affect players of Elder Scrolls Online who have purchased the game through Stadia. The Stadia store has been taken offline, so it is no longer possible to purchase Elder Scrolls Online on Stadia. Those who already own the game can continue to use the service until January. Google has confirmed that refunds will be given for all software and hardware purchases made through Stadia.
Stadia uses the same megaservers as PC/Mac, so no account migration will be required once you own the game on PC or through Steam. If transitioning from Stadia to PC, be aware that running the game locally has higher network requirements than streaming from the cloud.
Update 20 October 2022: ZeniMax have announced that Stadia players will be able to log in and download ESO for free on PC/Mac.
