On the Xbox 360[edit]
I'm thinking of getting this game for the Xbox 360 because I really enjoyed Oblivion and some people say this one is better. Are there any glitches or bugs I need to worry about? Evil Scumbag[edit]
Is there a page which has a listing of NPCs which I can cleave their skull in two with my mighty axe?
Typically I play as an evil backstabbing scumbag with no regard for human life or beast. If I can take it as my own, then life is not worth the 1 drake I get when pawning off my ill-gotten gains. Just about every miscellaneous quest ends up with a corpse at my feet (do quest normally and complete, pickpocket, then death) and I wonder if there is anything I'm missing because they are dead.
Article suggestions for those that know the ins-and-outs way better than me:
- who can be killed once their usefulness is expired (some eg: Ajira, Balmora Mage Guild. Ahnassi, Caldera Tavern. Soccoius Ergalla, Seyda Neen after taxman quest. Eldafire from the get go cause shes an arrogant old cow).
- suggestions on who really should be left alive once the world is 'cleansed' (this would be heavily based on opinion etc.)
I decided to play like this because it gives an ending to the game. Once all of the used-up-usefulness characters are eliminated and all possible quests are completed, then I can say that the game is finished and complete. AND, if this new article would conflict with 'the factual based wiki about Morrowind', then where could I find information one this playing style (some forum, messageboard etc.)?
Someone could also make an article about playing through Morrowind GOTY without trying to kill anyone except where demanded by a quest - like a pacifist playthru?

Regarding Steam[edit]
One of the first things mentioned in this article is the availability of Morrowind on Steam. While I encourage as many people to play Morrowind as I can (though it's not a game for everyone I suppose), I'm can't say I'm too thrilled about this particular entry. If people wish to buy the game, I'm sure there are plenty of good alternatives. Advertising one retail option (whilst leaving out others) might take away a bit of that shine that radiates from the well written and neatly documented pages that make up this expansive website.
If, for some reason, people find it necessary to make links to stores in which the game is available, might I suggest a link to a new internal wiki page that lists several distributors?
i.e.:

- I haven't gotten around to checking that out extensively. The point I was trying to make however, is that I'd find it more appealing to see no advertisements like that at all. Should anyone find it absolutely necessary that such an entry is included, the suggested option may be a little more neutral and in the spirit of encyclopediae than the current post. - I don't see what the problem is. We're providing a link for people who might not have the game yet: we do it on the Oblivion page too. Where multiple options exist, we link them all (Official Plug-ins). UESP isn't an encyclopedia, it's a gaming website. - I bought mine at kmart for AUD $1.99- and thats not a typo. I went in when they were having a sale and spoke to some pimply teenager there who couldnt find the box for it (but all maps, booklet and cd were included.) Just check places like Kmart who do not specialise in selling just games- they are more likely to want to move stock out for new stock- and be prepared to bargain. - Somewhat random: Within the last year I saw a brand new copy of Morrowind GOTY for PC at Gamestop. I was pretty surprised, how do you find a new copy of an older game like that? But in general, you won't be able to find it at stores like that. If you wanted the PC versions I believe you could buy it online from Bethesda. Try here if so. Controlling the Camera[edit]
Hey guys I've just bought the GOTY edition for PC and enjoying mod's. Iv seen all over youtube people controlling the camera high up in the sky and revolving round the character. I know that you can press and hold the tab button, but I want to enjoy the scenery and possibly make some videos and pictures. I would love to do this but haven't a clue how. What's the button, or do I have to go though the Morrowind directory and change a file, or is there even a mod for it. I am not a modder so please tell me if it involves that Morrowind creation set and i will give up on this idea. Im on TESnexus with the same user name if someone can message me.

- Try this page. I think you would be good with with ToggleCollision to allow your character to ignore gravity. Oblivion has ToggleFlyingCamera, but I don't see that on the list for Morrowind. --DKong27 Talk Cont 18:54, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

is there any way to get the official downloads (helm of tohan ect) onto xbox (i know you can get bloodmoon and tribunal) or failing that is there anyway to get xbox saves onto computer? (Eddie the head 12:23, 21 May 2011 (UTC))
- No, the plug-ins are only available on PC. I'm unsure if it's possible to port over XBOX saves, but it can be done with Oblivion and the 360 so it might be doable. Legoless 12:33, 21 May 2011 (UTC)
Meaning of the word "Morrowind"[edit]
Hello, I thought it could be interesting. There is a word (or two words) in Polish: "morowe powietrze" which can be translated into "pestiferous air". I thought that it describes the title fits the game perfectly, because Morrowind is "sick air" - blight. And the game is about that (more or less). The term "morowe powietrze" was used in Poland in the XIV century for describing the plague of black death. - A morro is an isolated promontory often made of hard rock. Some morros are made from the hard centers of old volcanoes that are left over after the cones have eroded away. Also in Spanish folk lore they exist and are called "Moros" or "Mouros", these names were also used for the Arabic invaders and the people from the old Roman region (not the modern country) of "Mauritania" that you can speak /moriteinia/ and comprises Morocco and Algeria.

- Don't you mean the Moors for the Muslim African invaders. Mor's meaning ranges from sea to die. The original greek word Maurus meant dark, and the other words derived from it, but have different meanings. All-in-all Morrowind is a made up word imo and this discussion is going nowhere. - Just tested it, you can play it on 360, you just need to be connected to xbox live when you begin to play, it will tell you to download a update to play, its exactly the same as playing on xbox after that, you can't even use the xbox guide. (Eddie The Head 14:26, 20 December 2011 (UTC))

Problems with books, inventory and the like[edit]
Could someone please tell me what's wrong? I sometimes get this problem, that I can't scroll up or down in the conversation menu, left/right in the inventory or read a book or the journal. For example, if I open up the journal, it instantly backs up to page one and gets stuck there, I can't read any of the later journal entries. Or when I start a conversation with an NPC, I can't scroll up or down for more options. It's very annoying and I have no idea how to fix it. Restore magicka spell!!![edit]
Just a note to say, there is a way to restore full magicka with a spell.

GOTY error with weather and other odd things....[edit]
Recently got GOTY with Tribunal and Bloodmoon, installed Bloodmoon first, just in case that matters, then tried to play. Got a bunch of errors, then the game closed. Is this because I didn't register it online? Or is it because I installed the later addon before the first? Is there a patch that might fix this? This is max7238, I'm just not registered here yet... Candc4's High Detail Morrowind Item Stock Project[edit]

- I don't think this is ready to be moved to the Morrowind namespace yet -- I think you need to do a lot more work in a sandbox, and get more feedback from the community, before creating proper articles. My single largest concern with the [[Morrowind:Exclusive Restore Health Potions]] article as it stands is that it's going to cause confusion relative to the Morrowind:Exclusive Restore Health redirect that already exists for these potions. Readers who end up at the new article aren't going to find the information they're expecting from Morrowind:Potions (weight, price, edid, etc.). I also question whether the article contains enough information to not be misleading -- I think readers would expect to find a list of all guaranteed locations for these potions, e.g., non-restocking vendors, plus places where the potions can be found. Class for all factions?[edit]
So I'm going to start a new Morrowind game, and one of the things that's important to me is having lots of quests and things to do. I'm trying to build a class that will have skills in every faction's favored skill list, so as I use my skills I don't have to worry about training and such to advance skills for a certain faction.
I've made a spreadsheet and I'm trying to make a class that works, but I'm having a lot of trouble.
Can anyone provide some insight?

- Beginning with your skills spread around will make your first hours in Morrowind hard. Focusing on tasks like running around without dying, dispatching of creatures, and unlocking things should be your first priority. If you can't do the quests, you can't advance.
- You would need a lot of money in order to pay for training if you wanted to quickly increase your skills for every faction; so you might just pick Speechcraft as a major skill, some way to murder NPCs for their valuables, or Alchemy, another popular way to earn septims.
- Morrowind has a few quests which direct you to kill people in other factions, so be sure you are avoiding those quests or just doing them in the order where you aren't in the faction yet (Usually speechcraft and personality come in handy to avoid the bloody conclusions of quests).
- I would pick the Bard class, as it's well balanced and can be easily played as a "Jack of Trades" type character, using varied skills from magic, stealth and combat. The speechcraft would increase quickly from the specialization and stats. The Warrior has great synergy with this build, but The Atronach is always overpowered, the only thing left is to choose a race. I like shoes, so the beast races are out, and Altmer have too many weaknesses, so the obvious choice is Redguard, they have curved swords. Curved swords. Lukish_ Tlk Cnt 10:09, 29 November 2011 (UTC)

Journal Bug[edit]
I play morrowind with bloodmoon and tribunal, bloodmon patch, mge and patch project, and everything was going fine until recently. I just checked my journal and many of the quests I completed suddenly appeared in the active quest page. Anyone knows how can I fix that? - I have no idea *why* this would happen, but looking up the individual quests will give the journal codes for said quest, just find the appropriate entry with the green checkmark and enter "journal <journal code> <index>" in the console, and it should fix that. That being said, it might be easier to reload the earlier save and catch up, depending on how far back the save is...DextroWombat 08:01, 13 February 2012 (UTC)
A little question, regarding Bloodmoon and Tribunal.[edit]
I have the original Xbox version of Morrowind, and I'm playing it on an Xbox 360. I was wondering if there was a way I could get the Tribunal and Bloodmoon expansions onto my copy of the game without actually getting an Xbox? Bauglir100 02:08, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
- The only way to play Bloodmoon and Tribunal on Xbox is to get the Game of the Year Edition, which comes with both of them already on the disc with the base game. Is that what you wanted to know? ESQuestion?•Email•Contribs 02:11, 12 April 2012 (UTC)

- You can play a Vanillia save on GotY, When you load it the first time, it will make a copy of the save and convert it to a "Game of the Year Save", leaving the old version as an "Original Morrowind Save". Forever Novice[edit]
No matter how much experience I accumulate, my character can't level up. There seems to be a problem with the resting/sleep function. I get the following diagnostic:"Unable to complete operation due to failure removing previous file. Temp file remains. Continue running executable?" I can keep playing by typing "Y," but reasonable progress is crippled. Can anybody walk me through a fix for Vista ops?Dognosticator 14:05, 21 April 2012 (UTC)dognosticator
- It sounds like you had a mod installed and then uninstalled on it - maybe try using WryeMash to clean up the save file. Just google WryeMash, there are a ton of tutorials for it out there. DextroWombat 19:21, 21 April 2012 (UTC)

Npc's wont stop attacking me?[edit]
So recently, I turned into a werewolf and accidently killed an imperial guard fairly close to seyda neen, All the NPCS Wont stop attacking me even after using stopcombat in the console and i cleaved everyone in the town. Will killing the town make others try to kill me? and i need console commands just in case for further issues. - From Bloodmoon:Werewolf: No one will know that you are a werewolf, but if you are seen transforming by anyone, even if you kill them immediately afterwards or have no contact with anyone else, all of Tamriel will know and will most likely attack you on sight even when you are not a werewolf. - Unfortunately I am also unable to play Morrowind on my Xbox 360. I did contact Microsoft as well as check the forums on Xbox live.com and UNLESS you have the newer slim 360 with the internal hard drive, you are unable to play this or ANY original Xbox games. This is due to the major system update that came out via Xbox live in March 2012. The fix that allows us to play these games will only work now for the newer systems as it does a hardware check. Us who have the older 360's with an external hard drive can't get these updates cause our system is no longer compatible with the fix. Even if you get the game from on demand, as you can for a few like Fable, they will not work on the older 360's. Much Too Hard[edit]

- I believe it is possible to adjust the difficulty setting of the game in Options or something; I know you can do this in Skyrim and Oblivion. As far as the game itself, I guess you could say some things are harder because Bethesda hadn't had the feedback from Morrowind to make it even better and more user-friendly like Oblivion and Skyrim. - In Morrowind, you may move the difficulty slider between the values -100 and 100, allowing for 200 difficulty levels, I believe. Wrong summary on NPCs link?[edit]
The little blurb next to the NPCs page link under World Information says "Listing of all non-player characters in the game." but there is no list of NPCs on the page that it links to. The People link right below does seem to fit though, linking to lists of NPCs broken into a number of categories. The NPCs page seems to be more about information about NPCs rather than a list of all of the NPCs in the game. --Dragos Drakkar (talk) 21:09, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
- Neither pages are lists of characters, so the wording is wrong, and the NPCs page should provide links to all NPCs. The people page is only for named people, so it excludes all the guards, and generic NPCs and enemies. Silence is GoldenBreak the Silence 22:11, 10 August 2016 (UTC)
Development history[edit]
Would it be worth putting a few words down regarding Morrowind's development history? The old (and now archived) Bethesda page had this nice information in it :
Morrowind was originally conceived during development of Daggerfall. It was to be called Tribunal and set in Summerset Isle. It was then redesigned after Daggerfall to use a new SVGA version of the XnGine (later used in Battlespire) and feature the entire province of Morrowind, not just the subsection of Vvardenfell where the final game actually takes place. The original story featured all 5 houses of the Dark Elves, including your ability to join House Indoril and House Dres. The original design also featured the progressive expansion of the Blight, cities being destroyed, armies marching, along with the return of Dagoth-Ur." Opening scenes[edit]
I feel like what Morrowind's article is missing is the starting scenes when starting a new game. I searched for what Acura says to you but I could not find it. I personally think that what Azura says is vital to game play. I don't want to add it myself but I was wondering if somebody used to UESP could make it. Hohni (talk) 07:24, 28 November 2017 (UTC)
- Agreed. This is the first dialogue you hear in the game, so it is clearly important. However, I'm not sure if it belongs on this page, Morrowind:Main Quest, or somewhere else. The introductory scene in Redguard appears on its quests page and that works well. Its quest page would be equivalent to Morrowind:Main Quest. For reference, the dialogue is: ""They have taken you from the Imperial City's prison, first by carriage and now by boat, to the east to Morrowind. Fear not, for I am watchful. You have been chosen.""

- Skyrim's first quest starts at the very start of the game, but without the dialogue, which is on each persons page. Azura has a page which should contain all her dialogue, and any vital dialogue should go on the quest page, but not all if there is a lot. The quest and the others like it should start from the start of the game, as there isn't anywhere more appropriate for that information. Starting date?[edit]

- 16th of Last Seed, 3E 427. It's on the release papers given to you in the Census and Excise office. You're never going to find information on the Calendar about when the games start. It's specifically about Tamrielic holidays. Each Elder Scrolls game, at least as far as I'm aware, and that includes Morrowind onward, starts in the middle of the month of Last Seed though, if you're interested. The precise numbered dates are different by a couple of days, though. Special challenge page?[edit]

- No. What value does a page like that possibly offer? It's not something that is actually a thing in the game, nor is it something that people in the community talk about or do to the point where there becomes encyclopedic value to it. It would just be a page of subjective information that some people agree or disagree with that is always up for being edited because someone likes or doesn't like what's on it, like with the old roleplaying pages that existed for other games. First Time Players[edit]
I've made First Time Players as an alternative to Morrowind:Starting Out since that is just a spoiler list at this point. I'd like to, at some point, have this placed on the main page with a description "A spoiler-free overview of the game's mechanics and undocumented features" with the description for Starting Out changed to "A spoiler heavy list of hints to help you start your adventures in Vvardenfell on a good note". I'd like some feedback on the page and thoughts on moving it to mainspace+linking to it on Morrowind:Morrowind. --Agiletek (talk) 02:21, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
- Looking at this guide and comparing it to existing First Time Player guides we have, I do not think it meets the same goals of those pages (for comparison, here is Oblivion:First Time Players Skyrim:First Time Players Online:First Time Players). The overall approach is so different that I don't think it works as a guide of the same type for the UESP. Here is the most prominent advice listed on more than one of those articles:
- The most important piece of advice is: Play the game! Stop reading this wiki, and just go have fun enjoying the game. When you're starting out, don't worry about making mistakes, and don't worry about playing efficiently. The premise of this page is that at first, it is most important to spend as much time as possible playing, and as little time as possible reading. Although many links are provided to pages with more information, you do not need to read those linked pages at first.
- In comparison, here are the most prime instructions from the sandbox article:
- PC players are advised to download and install OpenMW, Patch for Purist, Expansion Delay, and Morrowind Optimization Patch. These are the only mods (and new engine) you actually need for your first playthrough.
- It is then followed by several paragraphs describing the technical aspects of those mods, makes more mod recommendations, discourages the use of official content, starts talking about differences between game version based on what expansions you have, before providing a series of unrelated keyboard commands and minor exploits.
- Putting myself into the shoes of a new player, I don't think this guide would work for me. There is nearly 2,000 words in this article before it reaches the topic of character creation, the first thing a new player does. You provide technical information about the minimap, a feature that unlocks during the tutorial, in an early section. Imagine the first time player going in here, and trying to follow your advice. They actually can't, because it does not take into account when features become available to a first time player.
- From the philosophy of our other first time guides, we tend to not tell people to do many specific things. We encourage people to feel comfortable making any decision for race, without worrying too much about it. This guide talks about how character creation mistakes you make are irreversible. For my particular preferences for how this is done, Oblivion:First Time Players basically mentions that you won't have a maximally efficient character if you keep following the guide, and then offers some alternative guides for the players who want that pure efficiency so it doesn't distract from helping the people who just want to wet their feet. It's like a good college lecture where a professor will brush at the depth of a topic and point people in the direction to learn more, but not get bogged down by it as it is out of the scope for the current material.
- I could keep going on, but I believe the above is enough to express why I don't think this works as a first time player's guide. I think a first time player's guide would be a good idea, but not like this. I am not discouraging you to throw away your work, however, there is still good advice here. I think you should consider retooling it as a guide for a more intermediate player who wants a more refined experience now. I can't think of a good name for such a guide off the top of my head, but I think your guide would be a welcome and valuable addition to the UESP if it were presented in such a manner. --AKB Talk Cont Mail 03:52, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

- It's merely at the start, since they do cause significant issues if you don't know what they're doing. IIRC Firemoth has no conditions for starting so it can literally send you on a quest to kill the toughest monster in Morrowind (Grurn's regeneration is exceptionally hard for even experienced players with high level characters to deal with), less than thirty seconds after the intro ends. Area Effect Arrows puts the best bow in the game in a location it's trivial to steal. Adamantium Armor breaks the economy (even more than normal). LeFemm Armor introduces a very controversial visual change to vanilla assets. --Agiletek (talk) 22:03, 27 January 2022 (UTC)

- On the GoG (etc.) release, they're all un-ticked by default while Tribunal and Bloodmoon are ticked by default. That's not opinion in the slightest. - What part of the guide is a minor exploit? The point of this was to inform new players of things the manual and tutorial don't tell the player, or buries so deeply relative to how useful it is (Ctrl and Shift for inventory management, something I love and wish every game included, is only mentioned in the sixth paragraph of very dull and obvious UI instructions.). I remember being extremely confused the first time I accidentally disabled part of the menu and there's no way to know how to get it back, since the manual doesn't actually tell you (it strangely does tell you one of the two ways to to hide it, but not how to unhide it). Character creation segment could be split into its own subpage. As for the races part of it: Morrowind is easily the TES game where race has the most long-term impact on a character and likely the one where they're least balanced (non-Unity Daggerfall is the only competitor). --Agiletek (talk) 22:03, 27 January 2022 (UTC)
