Online:Patch/5.1.1
Released on July 15 2019.
The Elder Scrolls Online v5.1.1 adds the Witches Festival event for testing this week, along with several new spooky rewards. We've also implemented numerous fixes for the new Scalebreaker dungeons, and have made some adjustments to abilities and item sets. In the weeks to come, we'll continue to investigate the changes to healing and DoTs, the power level of some of the new and reworked item sets, and some of the reworked bonuses from abilities such as Onslaught.
During this patch, we'll be turning on updates for the Activity Finder. While the UI itself looks the same visually, the backend has been completely rewritten. This rewrite should make the Activity Finder much more reliable, especially under heavy load. We'd encourage you to help us stress test this system on Wednesday, July 17 from 2-4pm EDT. During this time, we'll be keeping a close eye on the LFG system and its behavior, and some of the development team will even be queueing for dungeons with you! Please be sure to review the known issues below, as well.
We're continuing to monitor feedback surrounding everything on the PTS, and appreciate all of the threads, reports and conversations. The size of this latest patch is 208MB.

New Features / Updates / Big Changes[edit]
Witches Festival[edit]
The Witches Festival will be available for testing for the duration of this week! To begin, simply obtain the free Crow Caller item from the Crown Store and use it to summon the witch. New for this year's Witches Festival, we have a whole bunch of new, spooky rewards available. Skeletal Marionette Memento: You can earn the new Skeletal Marionette Memento and use it to make a pint-sized skeleton dance for the amusement of you and your friends.
- To earn this li'l dancing demon, you'll need to obtain 10 Skeletal Marionette Parts and consume these items.
- Skeletal Marionette Parts can occasionally be obtained from any type of Plunder Skull, Dremora or not.
- Witches Festival Writs: New this year, you can find Witches Festival Writs within Dremora Plunder Skulls! Each Dremora Plunder Skull has a chance to provide one of these new crafting Writs. In these new Writs, Alyxe the hagraven asks you to craft one of the deliciously creepy Foods or Drinks you can learn to make from the Recipes found in Plunder Skulls, or a particular potion based on the Alchemy ingredients found in Plunder Skulls.
- These Writs work much like Master Writs; they can be traded, mailed, and sold. Once you accept the contract, however, they are bound to you.
- Completing 13 Witches Festival Writs will earn you the Witch's Infernal Hat, perfect for the aspiring witch. Completing 28 Witches Festival Writs will earn you the title "Witch", cementing your reputation.
- Glenmoril Armor Outfit Styles: Dremora Plunder Skulls now also include a chance to obtain Glenmoril Armor Outfit Styles. The specific Dremora Plunder Skull doesn't matter – any Dremora Plunder Skull could contain any Glenmoril Armor Outfit Style.
- Glenmoril Treasure Maps & Weapon Outfit Styles: Dremora Plunder Skulls now also have a chance to drop a new kind of Treasure Map, the Glenmoril Treasure Map. These Treasure Maps lead you to strange, creepy locations scattered throughout Tamriel – and you may notice, as you approach their designated location, that the weather turns bleak and the air is tinged with magic.
- When you arrive at your destination, you'll find a Glenmoril Weapon, awaiting a new master. Touch it, and you'll obtain the Glenmoril Outfit Style Page for that specific weapon.
- Each Treasure Map leads to a specific weapon, but the Treasure Map you obtain from a Dremora Plunder Skull is random.
- Dragonhorn Curio Memento: Obtained by completing the quest "The Horn of Ja'darri". This quest will be unlocked at a future date – so look forward to it!
Known Issues[edit]
Crown Store & Crown Crates[edit]
General
- Skill lines are available for purchase in this patch for 1 crown (this is not the final price), but the Undaunted skill line is currently broken and does not unlock properly on other characters. This will be fixed in a future PTS patch.
Combat & Gameplay[edit]
General
- Many core combat abilities such as Sprint, Dodge, Bash, and bar swapping can fail to occur if cast within 100ms of activating an ability. This is under investigation with high priority, and we're working on getting it fixed as quickly as possible.
- Flame Clench and Dizzying Swing's animation appear out of sync for the receiving target, but not the caster. This is due to the rank up progression of the stuns, and these two abilities will see adjustments to how they rank up in a future patch.
- Tri Focus is not currently proccing with a Lightning Staff, but will be fixed in a future PTS patch.
- Seventh Legion is both proccing and not proccing in areas it shouldn't be. These will be fixed in a future PTS patch. Note that passives that proc are not considered "Ability casts".
- Searing Heat does not currently keep up to standards with our DoT audit, and will be updated in a future PTS patch.
Miscellaneous[edit]
Activity Finder
- Battlegrounds are currently unavailable while we test the new system. Note that it will appear as though you can queue for them, but you won't be transferred into the battleground.
- Using a wayshrine after accepting a Ready Check, but before teleporting to the dungeon, will result in you being stuck in the queue.
- If you leave a group at the end of the dungeon and queue for another dungeon, the UI will not correctly display your queue status after you are teleported out of that dungeon.
- If two players leave your group mid-dungeon, you'll only be able to find 1 replacement under most circumstances.
- You may get the reward for doing a random dungeon even though you queued for a specific one.

- The Putrid Stalk will now appear correctly on player corpses after interacting with the Azureblight Seed.
- General

General
- The Corruption of Maarselok Memento now prevents you from mounting up while it's active.
- Shortened the cooldown for the Corruption of Maarselok Memento to 10 seconds from 15 seconds.
Combat & Gameplay[edit]
Combat & Abilities[edit]
General
- Player-sourced Oblivion Damage will no longer bypass immunities on bosses.
Sorcerer
- Storm Calling
- Overload: The Heavy Attack from this ability and its morphs can no longer be interrupted.
Templar
- Aedric Spear
- Puncturing Strikes: This ability and its morphs will now use an older version of camera controls, predating the adjustments with Murkmire. This was done to prevent many of the errors occurring explicitly with gamepad mode.
- Dawn's Wrath
- Living Dark: Reduced the healing from this ability by approximately 55%. The heal will be equal to the first tick of Unstable Core, but can happen twice as frequently and will allow for overall more effective power if you are constantly attacked. This was the original design, but the heal was incorrectly referencing a much stronger heal, and thus leading to the chaos many of you saw. Oops.
Weapon
- Restoration Staff
- Healing Ward: Increased the heal strength of this ability to 100% of the shield's remaining strength from 25% of its strength, but it can no longer critically strike due to being based off a previous value. This will continue to bypass Battle Spirit. We'll continue to investigate the strength and scaling mechanisms of this ability as this PTS cycle continues.
- Bow
- Endless Hail: Fixed an issue where this ability was ending before dealing all 13 ticks of damage.
- One Hand and Shield
- Shield Wall: Fixed an issue if you were holding block while casting this ability, you were unable to activate ground targeted abilities.
Armor
- Medium Armor
World
- Soul Magic
- Soul Trap: This ability and the Consuming Trap will now only hit one enemy instead of up to 2.
- Soul Splitting Trap (morph): This ability will now target 6 enemies instead of 3. The radius remains 5 meters, which will make hitting the maximum difficult, and is intended to be as such.
- Soul Trap: This ability and the Consuming Trap will now only hit one enemy instead of up to 2.
Itemization & Item Sets[edit]
General
- Protective: Reduced this item trait to 1190 Physical and Spell Resistance at CP160 Legendary quality from 1844, to ensure its strength is similar to other jewelry traits.
Item Sets
- Adept Rider: The Major Evasion from this set will now properly apply to Area of Effect damage. We're aware the nature of this set is not ideal for its proc conditions, and will investigate future adjustments for a future update beyond Update 23.
- Gossamer:
- The Major Evasion from this set will now properly apply to Area of Effect damage.
- Removed the 10% chance to proc, but reduced the duration of the bonus to 2 seconds from 6 seconds.
- Note: These changes were done to improve the use case of the set, while requiring a more constant rate of healing to retain it.
- Grace of Gloam:
- The Major Evasion from this set will now properly apply to Area of Effect damage.
- Removed the 10% chance to proc, but reduced the healing to 2000 from 3440.
- Removed the hidden 500ms cooldown from the heal proc.
- Hist Bark: The Major Evasion from this set will now properly apply to Area of Effect damage.
- Oblivion's Foe: This set now grants up to 1000 Weapon and Spell Damage to your Soul Trap ability, rather than increasing its damage by 100%.
- Pirate Skeleton:
- Reduced the duration of the proc from this set to 10 seconds from 12 seconds.
- Increased the cooldown to 20 seconds from 15 seconds.
- The Minor Defile is now Major Defile.
- Developer Comment: These changes were done to adhere the set to our itemization standards, and was prioritized over others as a large callout by the community that this set was enabling far too much protection with too little draw back. Note that the tooltip currently still states Minor Defile, and will be fixed in a future PTS patch.
- Spectre's Eye:
- The Major Evasion from this set will now properly apply to Area of Effect damage.
- Increased the cooldown to 10 seconds from 6 seconds, but increased the duration to 5 seconds from 3 seconds.
- Thunderous Volley:
- Fixed an issue where the bonus from this set would occasionally double dip and increase faster. It will now properly increase each tick of Volley and its morphs after the first tick of damage is dealt.
- Fixed an issue where Endless Hail was not getting the bonus of this set on its final tick.
Base Game Fixes & Improvements[edit]

- Maw of the Infernal
Exploration & Itemization[edit]
General
- Fixed an issue with some enchantments' value being based on the quality of the jewelry piece they were applied to, rather than the quality of the glyph itself. These enchantments now work off the quality of the glyph, as intended.

- The Dragon Call emote is now properly used with "/dragoncall", changed from the incorrect "/dragonkazoo".
- Updated the icons on the Spawn of Mephala Mask & Shoulder Outfit Styles.

- Sealed a number of small visual gaps in the Moongrave Fane portion of the Hall of the Lunar Champion.
Quests & Zones[edit]
Elsweyr Prologue Quest
- The Dragonguard's Legacy:
- Updated the location of the door to Darkwater Temple in Eastmarch to be in a more appropriate location.
- Fixed an issue where the door into Dark Water Temple was not always visible.
- The Horn of Ja'darri: Adjusted the difficulty of Vahlokzin to be more in line with other main quest dragons.
Reaper's March
- Fixed an issue where running down the stairs from the Rawl'kha Temple could cause your pets to despawn.
Witches' Festival
- Fixed an issue if you summoned Witchmother Olyve in her lair, you would see two versions of her.
- Fixed an issue so the Gruesome Feast achievement can only be progressed during the Witches Festival.
- Adjusted the text for the Sacking Skeletons achievement to "Kill 100 Skeletons while under the effects of the Witchmother's Brew during the Witches Festival" to avoid any confusion about what skeleton form is required to progress the achievement.
UI[edit]
Alliance War
- The dialog that informs you when your alliance lock to a campaign has been activated is now an alert (upper right message), since that can now happen while you're in combat and dialogs prevent you from controlling your character.

- Fixed an issue where items received from multi-craft operations would not be flagged as new.
